Phil Milligan, Director of Performance
Phil Milligan took up the role of West Midlands SHA Director of Performance in August 2010. Prior to this he had been Chief Operating Officer at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. He has also worked as Chief Operating Officer at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, Managing Director at Good Hope Hospital (where he led the preparation for absorption into the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust) and Chief Operating Officer at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. Phil has had a long career in the acute sector and has been a Director since 1995.
Phil has a MSc in Primary Healthcare Management, he was awarded a Nuffield Trust Travelling Fellowship, which allowed study tours in North America Health System. He was awarded a ‘Partnership’ award by the then East Birmingham PCT and was a member of the Executive Team at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust which received the Secretary of State for Health Award for Excellence in Management award (2008), and the Executive Team of the Year Team, West Midlands Health and Social Care Challenge Awards 2008.
Phil is a Director of PK Healthcare Ltd – provider of healthcare consultancy services and Roxton Nursing Home Ltd – a 45-bed care organisation in North Birmingham. He is has been Chair of the Institute of Healthcare Management and continues to be keenly interested in management development and mentoring schemes.
