Who We Are
We are the head office function for the NHS in the West Midlands
NHS West Midlands is the Strategic Health Authority for the West Midlands. We are one of ten strategic health authorities (SHA) created on 1 July 2006 by the government, to lead the regional NHS. We are a key link between the Department of Health and the local NHS.
Since 3 October 2011, NHS West Midlands has been part of the Midlands and East SHA Cluster, with NHS East Midlands and NHS East of England.
The NHS Management Board confirmed in July 2011 that there would be four SHA Clusters established across England, each with a single board. The Midlands and East SHA Cluster has a clear purpose in the following areas:
- Delivering for today
- Building for the future
- Supporting staff
