Cohort Policies - Drugs Considered by West Midlands Cancer Drugs Fund Panel

Our cohort policies for approved drugs can be found below (further policies will added once they are approved).

  Abiraterone + Cabazitaxel for Prostate Cancer - Abiraterone and Cabazitaxel were originally approved by the CDF panel for funding.  In June 2012, Abiraterone received approval from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).  This means it will no longer come under the remit of the Cancer Drugs Fund.  The full NICE guidance is available here.  The WM CDF will continue to fund the use of Abiraterone in line with the CDF policy for three months from the publication of the NICE Technology Appraisal; the appropriate PCT is expected to provide funding for Abiraterone, in line with NICE recommendations, from 27 September 2012.  An amended policy for Cabazitaxel is available below.

 Sequential use of abiraterone or cabazitaxel, after prior docetaxel treatment and cabazitaxel or abiraterone for prostate cancer

  Abraxane (Paclitaxel albumin) for Breast Cancer

  Alemtuzumab for B-cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL)

  Azacitidine in Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukaemia 2, with myeloproliferative disorder

  Azacitidine for Myelodysplastic Syndrome - This drug was originally approved for funding by the ICDF panel in October 2010.  It has since received approval from the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) , so will no longer come under the remit of the Cancer Drug Fund.  The relevant NICE guidance is available here. The WM CDF continued to fund the use of Azacitadine in line with the CDF policy for three months from the publication of the NICE Technology Appraisal; the appropriate PCT is expected to provide funding for Azacitadine, in line with NICE recommendations, from 1 July 2011.

  Bendamustine in CLL - This drug was originally approved for funding by the ICDF panel in November 2010.  It has since received approval from the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) , so will no longer come under the remit of the Cancer Drug Fund.  The relevant NICE guidance is available here. The WM CDF will continue to fund the use of Bendamustine in CLL in line with the CDF policy for 3 months from the publication of the NICE Technology Appraisal; the appropriate PCT will be expected to provide funding for Bendamustine, in line with NICE recommendations, from 1 June 2011.

  Bendamustine monotherapy or combined with Rituximab for relapsed CLL 

  Bendamustine + Rituximab for 1st Line CLL 

  Bendamustine for Indolent non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (as monotherapy following Rituximab)

  Bevacizumab for Advanced Breast Cancer 

  Bevacizumab for Advanced Colorectal Cancer 

  Bevacizumab for Ovarian Cancer

  Bortezomib for Multiple Myeloma with renal failure

  Cabazitaxel for Prostate Cancer

   Capecitabine (with GEM) for Pancreatic Cancer

  Cetuximab + Panitumumab for Advanced Colorectal Cancer

  Cetuximab for recurrent and/or metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the head and neck

  Eribulin for Advanced Breast Cancer

  Everolimus for Neuroendocrine Tumours  

  Everolimus for Renal Cell Cancer

  Everolimus in combination with exemestane for breast cancer

  FOLFOX for Pancreatic Cancer

  FOLFIRINOX for inoperable Pancreatic Cancer  

  Fulvestrant for Advanced Breast Cancer

  Imatinib adjuvant for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour (GIST)

  Imatinib for Locally Advanced or Metastatic Chordoma

  Imatinib for Melanoma

  Imatinib for Philadelphia Chromosome-Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (Ph+ALL) 

  Ipilimumab for Melanoma This drug was originally approved for funding by the WM Cancer Drugs Fund panel. It has since received approval from the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) , so will no longer come under the remit of the Cancer Drug Fund. The relevant NICE guidance is available here:

The WM CDF will continue to fund the use of ipilimumab/ vemurafenib in line with the CDF policy for 3 months from the publication of the NICE Technology Appraisal; the appropriate Responsible Commissioner is expected to provide funding from 1st April 2013, in line with NICE recommendations.

  Lapatinib for Advanced Breast Cancer

  Lenalidomide for Multiple Myeloma  

  Lenalidomide for Myelodysplasia

  Ofatumumab for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL)

  Pazopanib for Renal Cancer - This drug was originally approved for funding by the ICDF panel.  It has since received approval from the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) , so will no longer come under the remit of the Cancer Drug Fund.  The relevant NICE guidance is available here. The WM CDF continued to fund the use of Pazopanib for renal cancer in line with the CDF policy for 3 months from the publication of the NICE Technology Appraisal; the appropriate PCT is expected to provide funding for Pazopanib for renal cancer, in line with NICE recommendations.

  Pemetrexed Maintenance for Non-Squamous Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Rituximab for Follicular Lymphoma - This drug was originally approved for funding by the ICDF panel in December 2010.  It has since received approval from the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) , so will no longer come under the remit of the Cancer Drug Fund.  The relevant NICE guidance is available here. The WM CDF will continue to fund the use of Rituximab in line with the CDF policy for 3 months from the publication of the NICE Technology Appraisal; the appropriate PCT will be expected to provide funding for Rituximab, in line with NICE recommendations, from 1 October 2011.

  Rituximab for Various CD20 Positive Lymphomas  

  Rituximab + Chemotherapy for 1st Line Mantle Cell Lymphoma

    Sorafenib for Hepatocellular Cancer

  Sunitinib + Everolimus for Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours

  Temsirolimus for Renal Carcinoma

  Trastuzumab for Gastric Cancer

  Vemurafenib for Melanoma

 Vinorelbine HER2 for breast cancer

 

 

 The following drugs were not approved for funding:

  Azacitidine in Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukaemia

  Bendamustine for Multiple Myeloma

  Bevacizumab for Recurrent High Grade Glioma

  Cetuximab for Advanced Colorectal Cancer

 Ruxolitinib for the treatment of disease related splenomegaly

  Vinflunine for Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Urothelium

  Yttrium for Neuroendocrine Tumours
