Health Care Associated Infections Programme

 

 

 

Significant progress has been made over the last 3 years to reduce health care associated infections (HCAI), specifically MRSA and C diff.

During the next 12 months there will be an emphasis on sustaining this progress, engaging with commissioners to support continuation of the improvement and further embedded effective practice and reduction of infection across health economies.

Particular focus will be given to:

  • Whole health economy engagement with a specific focus on understanding, interpreting and reducing community onset infections.

  • The reduction of other organisms as highlighted within the  National  Audit Office (NAO) report on HCAI

  • Better use of existing data and interpretation and analysis within health economies

  • Develop clarity on the commission role for HCAI /IPC and strengthen assurance processes

  • Strengthen assurance frameworks to promote learning, quality and safety.

  • Strengthen joint working across NHS partners and external organisations
