NHS West Midlands carried out some research to understand why some people aren’t visiting a dentist and how improved information might help change their mind.  The findings identified ‘barriers’ that prevent people from visiting a dentist.  In response to these findings a toolkit has been developed and shared with PCTs and dentists, providing them with insight into the barriers, practical resources for their use, for example marketing materials and advice on how to target messages at different audiences.

The toolkit has been designed to assist PCTs in their drive to increase access to NHS dentistry to both to existing dental practices and to newly procured dental services.
