Children and Young People

There is an ambitious agenda to support the improvement of services for children, young people and families.

The workforce issues in Children’s services are often complex as they straddle health, social care and education services. We are committed to ensuring staff working in these services are well trained and developed to meet the considerable needs and enable the best possible outcomes for children, young people and their families.


Completed and ongoing areas of work include;

  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) foundation degree developed following mapping the skills and competencies required against a specified CAMHS care pathway   

  • Children and young persons Advanced Communication Skills Training (ASCST) in paediatric palliative care

  • Paediatric Palliative Care Module supported at Birmingham City University

  • Workshops around symptom management and paediatric ethics 

  • Paediatric assessment of the Ill/Injured Child and Young Person.

  • Support for staff to attend Advanced Paediatric Life Support Training (APLS)

  • A recovery skills and competency pack for anesthetic & recovery staff has been developed by the Partners In Paediatric Group

  • Framework developed in consultation with key stakeholders has identified the skills and competences for Health Visitors across the region

  • Supporting the migration of school nurses to part 3 of Nursing and Midwifery Council register
