Education and Workforce

Education Commissioning:

The Workforce Deanery commissions training for a variety of medical and non-medical roles. This includes post-graduate medical training, pre-registration training for nurses and some of the Allied Health Professions and several of the different Healthcare Science disciplines. The education commissions for Healthcare Science cover programmes at post-graduate level for healthcare science trainees, and are based on working with service leads through a robust programme of workforce planning.

Workforce Planning:

Workforce planning is integral to support delivery of a safe and effective service to users and their families and carers. There is an annual cycle of workforce planning that all Trusts in the region are part of. The outcomes of this are used to inform education commissioning processes every year.

The Department of Health has developed a Workforce reprofiling  tool specifically for Healthcare Sciences (Life Sciences). This will be complemented by Department of Health reprofiling tools for the other healthcare science disciplines in due course. NHS West Midlands has also developed a regional workforce modelling tool, which  will support  heads of department / service leads to plan their future workforce demand.  For further information on the NHS West Midlands workforce modelling tool, please contact Della Burgess.
